If you’re planning to study or work in Germany, or if you’re planning to stay in Germany as a resident, then you will need to demonstrate a certain level of proficiency in the German language. German universities, employers and immigration authorities will look for evidence of your ability to communicate in the German language through several different standardized tests.
Some of the most well-known tests that universities, employers, and immigration authorities accept to evaluate your reading and writing, listening and speaking skills in the German language, include the TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache) and the DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang) which are specific to students who are seeking entrance into German universities. If you are looking for a general or business-oriented examination, then you can consider taking the Goethe-Zertifikat and the telc Deutsch Exams. The Goethe-Zertifikat and telc Exams assess language proficiency through the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and can range from A1 (Beginner) to C2 (Advanced).
